HTC testing out ‘touch tablets’ for Android and Chrome OS?
Posted by: Gadget Boy in Gadget News, Technology on January 4th, 2010
What good would the rumor mill be if it didn't voice our innermost desires? Apparently not content with giving us the roomy 4.3-inch HD2, HTC is now said to be actively testing out fully fledged tablet devices. Slated (get it?) to be driven by Google's Android and minimalist Chrome OS, multiple varieties are currently being run through their paces and there's even word that "core HTC customers" will get to check them out at CES. Who these doyens are and whether they'll be so kind as to leak us a few photos is unknown, but word is that Qualcomm and Adobe are engaged to provide their hardware and software knowhow -- making for an impressive corporate combo if nothing else. This is still strictly uncorroborated, one-source rumormongering, but ain't it fun?HTC testing out 'touch tablets' for Android and Chrome OS? originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 03 Jan 2010 22:22:00 EST. SmartHouse | Email this | Comments New Form of Touchscreen Displays Pioneered, Extremely Multi-Touch [Touchscreen]
Posted by: Gadget Boy in Gadget News, Technology on December 30th, 2009
You've heard of resistive touchscreens, and hopefully you've been fortunate enough to own a capacitive touchscreen phone. But have you heard of Interpolating Force-Sensitive Resistance, or I.F.S.R touchscreen technology? Touchco hopes you soon will.
A bunch of scientists at New York University's Media Research Lab have grouped together to form Touchco, which is working on the aforementioned I.F.S.R technology. They want to create touchscreens which are even more multi-touch enabled than we've seen so far, capable of receiving simultaneous touch inputs. Apparently these touchscreens can be produced very cheaply, with Touchco hoping to sell them for $10 a square foot.
As you can see from the photo above, these touchscreens are very flexible, and don't require much power—making them ideal for ereaders, laptops and netbooks. [NYT Bits blog]

Posted by: Gadget Boy in Gadget News, Technology on December 29th, 2009
The curvaceous, sexy tablet from Notion Ink has some serious gender issues, as the company has named it "Adam." It'll still be the first tablet to use a Pixel Qi screen, Notion Ink's hoping, despite its June release date.
The specs haven't changed much since we first saw it a few weeks ago, with the long battery life being touted by Notion Ink's founder Rohan Shravan:
"We are the only ones to use Pixel Qi screens for Tablet technology. It consumes one-tenth of the battery compared with conventional LCDs"
A price point of $325 sounds very attractive, though I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's pushed north of that sum, considering the amount of spec crammed within that Android-powered body. [Electronista, pics via Slashgear]
What The Future Of Touchscreen BlackBerrys Nearly Looked Like [Phones]

Almost makes you like the Storm more, right? I'm guessing the (presumably resistive) touchscreen was so shoddy that the trackball was actually a required addition. Thank goodness this prototype didn't leave the R&D department. [PocketBerry via CrackBerry]
