PS3 Controller Fashioned From Nokia N900 [Mods]

The Nokia n900 is not a cool phone, OK? It's just not. But I admit, it can do some cool stuff, like play Duke Nukem 3D and double as a PS3 controller with the help of BlueMaemo. [MaemoCentral via MAKE]

Datamancer at It Again with Steampunk-Inspired Luxury Keyboard [Steampunk]

Steampunk-inspired PC master modder Datamancer (aka Rich Nagy) is no stranger to Gizmodo, and his latest work, a keyboard called Sojourner, is yet another example of his mastery within the genre.

If you really like steampunk-inspired gear, this can be yours for about $1,200 to $1,500.

The keys have all been artificially distressed to give the impression that this keyboard has "traveled the world in the backpack of an intrepid explorer."

Side view. Note the holes and, yes, more distressing and tarnish.

More keys! Also distressed! Just like your wallet should you try and buy this thing. [Datamancer via Born Rich]

Today We Salute You…Guy Who Crammed a Mac Mini, Subwoofer and Coffeemaker Into an Old iMac [Mods]

The iMac CS: A Coffeemaker, Subwoofer and Mac Mini All-In-One. You don’t even know why you want it.

This isn’t modder Klaus Diebel’s first experiment with the iMac case. In the past he has also used it to create a mailbox and a birdhouse. However, this design is far more ambitious—allowing you to use the computer, listen to bangin’ tunes and make a cup of Joe all at the same time. Plus, if you ask him nicely (and fork over some cash), Klaus would be happy to make a custom version for you too. [Kiwidee via TUAW via Technabob]

Modder mods new fangled wireless keyboard to look like old timey one
Before you laugh awkwardly at the weird sense of nostalgia this keyboard dredges up in your mind, let us introduce you to its wonders. Apparently modded by a Dutch man or woman courageous enough to admit that (like us) they prefer the pretty much extinct, giant, tactile-as-all-get out keyboards to newer, more streamlined models, this mod takes away the only gripe we ever had with such peripherals -- namely, their wiredness. The enterprising DIYer's taken a Logitech wireless Wii keyboard apart, mapping all the key codes along the way, thrown in a little basic soldering, wedged everything into the old keyboard and voila! Pretty magical, right? Well, okay -- not really, but still -- we sort of dig it. There's a before shot after the break, and hit the source link for the poorly machine translated how-to.

Linux Gets Multitouch, Unofficially [Linux]

Those Linuxers just can't stand watching Windows 7 do something they can't, so the ENAC Interactive Computing Lab worked to get multitouch running in Fedora. And now you can, too.

Apparently, their solution requires Linux kernel 2.6.31, X.org 1.7 (modified), and a series of corresponding hardware and experimental drivers (including a simple Asus Eee T91MT).

So it's not quite turnkey, but if you willing to tinker a bit, all the resources are online to run a multitouch version of Linux on a few different hardware platforms. And if you're running Linux, there's a good chance you're willing to tinker a bit. [ENAC Interactive via Netbook 3G via lilliputing]

Intel Shows Off Core i7 Mod Contest Winners [Mods]

Intel has announced the winners of their Core i7 desktop mod challenge. Naturally, the mods had to be built around intel Core chips, and the focus was to showcase the "possibilities of tomorrow's technology."

Detailed images of the builds are scarce, but I managed to scrounge up some media on a few of the more interesting projects. Check out the contest page for details on all of the winners. [Intel]
