LG Central | Email this | Comments Doesn’t She Look Thrilled About LG’s First DTV Devices For The US [Dtv]
Posted by: Gadget Boy in Gadget News, Technology on December 29th, 2009
Yes, your eyes are deceiving you, LG’s not licensed the StarTAC design. Phew. That telescopic antenna doesn’t just harp back to ye olden days though, it also receives a digital TV signal, one of the first US DTV devices.
Joining the Lotus clamshell is the DP570MH portable DVD player, which will play DVDs and over 800 channels of live digital TV thanks to the LG2160A ATSC-M/H chip, which LG’s offered to Dell for use in its laptops, and manufacturers of in-car receivers such as Kenwood. The DVD player has a four hour battery life when playing TV, which is only two hours less than the iPod Touch.
I’m all for DTV devices, but surely LG could’ve picked a better handset to introduce to the US market, considering the Lotus has been floating around since the end of 2008? [LGE via Engadget]
Logic Bolt Projector Phone
Posted by: Gadget Boy in Gadget News, Technology on December 29th, 2009
There has been a lot talk about the LG eXpo, a phone that has a pico-projector. However, CES last year had on display Logic Wireless’ Bolt projector phone. That phone is capable of throwing a VGA image on the wall that is 64 inches wide.
Of course, the projector is only one of the features of this phone that can run Symbian. It also has a touchscreen, as well as slots for two SIM cards.
It also has two cameras, one for the front and one for the back. I suppose that this is some design for the days when cellular phones will be all video-capable. Yeah, I’m still awaiting that day myself.
The Logic Bolt is available at, of all places, Sky Mall. It costs about $500, and that’s the unlocked price. I don’t know who wants this particular phone, as it doesn’t seem to have a carrier.
I’m going to venture a guess and say that this will be on display on CES on a little more than a week. If so, I would like to see how the projector fares against pico-projectors. If it can make the images more clear, then there might be market for this. As it is, it seems a little excessive.

Prime View International set to expand E Ink production; LG licenses daylight-viewable LCD tech
Posted by: Gadget Boy in Gadget News, Technology on December 28th, 2009
The suddenly-booming e-book market means things are starting to heat up for Taiwan-based Prime View International — the company has formally completed its acquisition of E Ink and plans to increase display production up to fourfold next year, and it’s licensing daylight-viewable LCD tech to LG for somewhere in the neighborhood of $30m. Whether that means we’ll be seeing new devices based on E Ink and next-gen LCD screens or just more sales of existing devices remains to be seen, but we’re obviously hoping for new gear — good thing CES is right around the corner.

Well, That’s Another “World’s X-est” That Will Never Be Topped [TVs]
Posted by: Gadget Boy in Gadget News, Technology on December 21st, 2009
Another week, another "world's thinnest." LG's new LCD looks like an OLED, and at just 2.6mm thick, it's actually a shade thinner than Sony's XEL-1.

Thankfully LG didn't compromise on diagonal size, with this prototype coming in at 42-inches. It's LED-backlit, with a 120Hz processor (for the US market, anyway) and apparently only weighs 4 kilograms.
Please excuse me while I fall over in shock. [I4U]

LG announces “world’s thinnest” 42-inch LCD panel
Posted by: Gadget Boy in Gadget News, Technology on December 21st, 2009
We’re gearing up for CES 2010, which means the race to show off an even thinner “worlds thinnest” LCD TV panel is heating up — and it looks like LG’s taking an early lead by announcing a new 42-inch 1080p panel that’s just 2.6mm (.1 inch) thin. The prototype LED-backlit 120Hz display weighs just under 8.8 pounds , but we don’t have any other specs on it just yet — but we’re sure we’ll find out far more 17 days from now in Vegas. Press release below.
