And just like that, the
CES 2010 on-switch has been well and truly pressed. After
HP,
Sony and
Lenovo all exposed their hardware to the world prematurely, it was inevitable that other companies would "accidentally" follow suit. Thanks to
CNET's snooping, we're now staring at a trio of new Core i3 models from Dell, Toshiba and Gateway -- highlighted by an unannounced ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 powering a 1600 x 900 15-inch display on the Gateway, which also squeezes 500GB of storage under a shockingly low $692 price tag. On the Atom front, the
Mini 210 is joined by a Toshiba NB305 -- sporting
the N450, 250GB HDD, up to 11 hours' claimed battery life, and a $438 sticker -- as well as Gateway's effort with a smaller 160GB HDD but also suitably reduced $285 asking price. Hit the links below to get freshened up on all the juicy details.

It just wouldn't be a
CES without a gaggle of new introductions from
Lenovo, and while we knew good and well that most everything here was on the way thanks to
a slip-up at Lenovo's site, it's always nice to get the official word. Kicking things off is the altogether sexy
ThinkPad Edge, which will ship in 13-, 14- and 15-inch versions in order to suit the small business users in the crowd. It'll include a choice of AMD processors (Turion X2 or Athlon X2), optional 3G / 4G WWAN modules, a full suite of Lenovo's own ThinkVantage technologies and preloaded Skype. This machine also marks the first ever
ThinkPad to arrive with a choice of color -- it'll ship in matte black, glossy black and heat-wave red. Moving on, there's the previously
rumored X100e, which goes down as the company's first "entry-level ultraportable." Starting at under $500, the AMD-based (Athlon Neo or Turion) rig gets outfitted with Windows 7 Professional, an 11.6-inch display, full-size keyboard, multitouch trackpad, WiFi and optional Bluetooth / 3G. Rounding things off are four new introductions in the classic range: the T410s, T410, T510 and W510. The foursome will become the first in the ThinkPad family to offer the upcoming Intel dual-core CPUs and mobile Core i7, and if you're thirsty for the full specs lists on the bunch (along with videos of the X100e and Edge), head on past the break and open wide.

Hey
Lenovo, your cards are showing. Just weeks after the FCC tipped us off on
a new pair of netbooks that are all but definitely slated for a CES unveiling, Lenovo has no one but its web administrator(s) to blame for this one. A "New product showcase" portal over on the outfit's site has just revealed a half dozen new lappies that are slated to go on sale starting January 5th - 7th, with the ultra-sleek 13.3-inch
ThinkPad Edge leading the way. Said rig boasts up to 7.8 hours of battery life, a dual-core CPU, Windows 7, Bluetooth and WiMAX options, integrated WWAN / GPS, WiFi, a spill-resistant keyboard, three USB ports, a 5-in-1 media card reader and an option for a red paint job. There's also a sub-3 pound ThinkPad X100e ultraportable with an 11.6-inch display, AMD processor and an only-available-overseas Arctic White color option. The T410, T410s, T510 and W510 are bringing up the rear, with their (admittedly brief) specification lists spelled out in the source links below.
[Thanks, Jake and Daniel]

The previously phased out 11.1-inch Sony
Vaio T has shown back up over at Sony Style Japan. The good news is that this time, it's a Windows 7 CULV on the inside, even if it looks the same on the outside. The new Vaio Ts come with processor options including a dual core 1.2GHz Celeron SU2300, a 1.4GHz dual core Core 2 Duo SU9400, or a 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo SU9600, and they boast Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics, plus 4GB or 8GB of RAM, an up to 512GB SSD or 500GBhard drive. There's also optional extras like Blu Ray, 802.11n WiFi, a fingerprint scanner, and digital TV tuner. The laptop's life is rated at about 11 hours when equipped with the standard battery, or 17 with the large capacity. So far, we've only seen these bad boys in Japan, where they're retailing for ¥129,800 (that's around $1400).
Sony Vaio T makes a comeback, and this time it's a CULV with major battery life originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 31 Dec 2009 08:41:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Murmurings of an Acer Aspire packing Intel’s new Pine Trail N450 processor have been doing the rounds for a while, but finally pics and more specs have been leaked, cementing the existence of this still-unofficial model.
It’s a 10.1-inch model with a 1024 x 600 resolution display, and runs on the aforementioned processor, along with an Intel GMA 3150 graphics card, 1GB of RAM, and has either a 160GB or 250GB HDD. A 0.3-megapixel webcam, 5-in-1 card reader, 3 x USB ports, VGA out port and audio jacks round it off, as does the Windows 7 Starter edition OS.
It’ll come in black, red, white and blue colorways, with the leaked prices so far suggesting it’ll be under $300. Expect to hear more on this netbook soon, with CES just over the peak of the hill. [Netbook News]

We've been seeing a fair amount of netbooks equipped with Intel's
Pine Trail platform since they were
announced early last week, and it looks like we're going to be seeing at least one from Samsung in the very near future. This one -- the N220 -- was just spotted in France. The 10.1-incher packs (as you'd expect) an
Atom N450 CPU, GMA 3150 graphics, 1GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth, plus a webcam and a 6 cell battery which should supposedly get around eleven and a half hours of battery life. It comes with Windows 7 installed, and as you can see from the photo, one of the available colors will be glossy green. It's going for 350 euros in France, so, if the price stays comparable when (and if it) hits North American soil, we can expect it to cost somewhere in the realm of $500. Hey, now this isn't your average, everyday, boring
netbook now is it? Well, at least not in looks, anyway. The Sheng T108, which has recently been spotted in
Shenzhen, China, has a brushed aluminum chasis that makes it stand out from the crowd, to be sure. Internally, you'll find this 10.1-incher boasting an Intel Atom N280 CPU, 2GB of DDR2 memory, and a 250GB hard drive -- nothing volcanically surprising, but not too shabby either. It's also got a 3-cell battery, a VGA port, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi support, a built in webcam, and a SIM card slot for 3G connectivity. The pricing is said to be somewhere in the realm of $300, and while there's no word on availability of this puppy outside of China, we'll certainly keep our eyes peeled for you. One more shot after the break.

The
tap that keeps on leaking has inadvertently let loose an internal "notebook index" document that corroborates
earlier rumblings of a forthcoming Envy 14. Sourced from HP's Korean site, this little ditty reveals Envy 14 and Envy 17 models, which
both tick the 'HP external USB DVD Drive' category, bringing up the intriguing possibility of a 17-inch laptop without an integrated optical drive. The bigger machine is also listed alongside "new" 6- and 9-cell battery packs, but other internal specs remain unknown. In other news, successors to the
Elitebook 2730p tablet,
2530p ultraportable and
8730w desktop replacement have been spotted, with 16:9 display ratios on the smaller machines and 16:10 on the 17-inch workstation. Hit the read link for more details, and keep it locked to the Engadget channel when CES hits in a few days' time, when a lot of these sketchy leaks will be replaced by exhaustive spec sheets and full-color, in-the-metal photography.

We know you've got questions, and if you're brave enough to ask the world for answers, here's the outlet to do so. This week's
Ask Engadget question is coming to us from Moe, who is dead-set on snagging a 13-inch machine just as soon as a model is decided upon. Help a brother out, won't you?
"I'm in the market for a new laptop, and I want a 13-incher. I need something with a great keyboard for typing, as this will mostly be used for note taking in class. I am absolutely smitten with the XPS 13, but I'm afraid that with its age Dell is going to give it an update soon. Any advice for someone in my shoes? Thanks!"
There's no doubt that an update is around the corner, but there's no telling how far that corner is from being reached.
USB 3.0 updates are unavoidable, and we wouldn't be surprised to see a few new SSD options creep up, either. That said, there's nothing quite like the here and now, so if any of you ultraportable owners wish to help out, you know where to head.
