What a RC Plane Sees When You Try to Kill It With Fireworks [Robots]

Giz reader BushmanLA sent in a video of his kids trying to shoot down his flying R/C drone with fireworks. From the perspective of the UAV.

Some of the shots look like they're close, but all I can think about is how fucked we are when the Terminator thing goes down and all we have are sparklers. Videos like this make me think the liberal middle class (me) should think again about the NRA and shotguns. [Pasqualy]

Sega Indoor Fireworks Projector

sega-fireworksFireworks are always a thing of beauty, but they can get pretty expensive when you want to make a grand show out of it. With the Sega Indoor Fireworks Projector, you no longer have to worry about your house burning down or singed hair – all you need to do is make sure they’re adequately powered and you’re good to go.

Resembling a small planetarium, this jaw-droppingly entertaining gizmo beams realistic virtual firework displays across walls and ceilings. It even blasts out suitably explosive sound effects. The only thing missing is the heady aroma of gunpowder mixed with boiled hot dogs. Impressed? You should be because the Sega is the world’s first indoor firework projector. Mains-powered, the Sega utilises six lenses, internal speakers and nine interchangeable image discs to replicate various awe-inspiring displays. All you do is select a mode, insert a disc and turn off the lights. Hook up to external speakers and we’re talking Beijing Olympics standard here, folks. We’ll even throw in three bonus discs containing messages such as ‘I love you’ and ‘Happy Birthday’.

Interested in picking one up for this coming Christmas? It won’t be that cheap though at £129.95 a pop, but to see the smiles light up on the faces of your kids with the Sega Indoor Fireworks Projector in action, now that’s priceless.

Sega’s Virtual Fireworks Machine Takes the Fun Out of Explosions [Fireworks]

Sega Toys is coming out with the Uchiage Hanabi, essentially a limited-function projector that shows fake fireworks on your ceilings or walls, complete with sound.

You'll be able to create your own "shows" with 55 different explosions which you can then take anywhere, as the device is designed to be portable—it takes AAA batteries for power and looks fairly diminutive. It'll retail for around $160 when it's released, but that release isn't until August 1st. Releasing a fireworks machine, virtual or no, four weeks after both July 4th and Canada Day is like investing in pumpkins in mid-winter. [Sega via OhGizmo]

Uchiagehanabi Brings Fireworks Indoors

sega_toys_projector-620x465For those of you who haven’t checked your calendars lately, this Saturday is the Fourth of July, that patriotic American holiday celebrated with fireworks. I’m sure most people in the U.S.A. know where they are going to spend their evenings that day, but Sega Toys Japan has figured out a way to put fireworks indoors.

This device is known as the Uchiagehanabi, and I have no idea what that translates to. It can projects the images of fireworks on the wall and the ceiling.

Some of the firework images are 1.5 meters wide, and it they have all the proper sound effects including the booms and dramatic suspense. They also have fifty-five patterns of various sizes and colors, and creative ways of making unique displays. Hopefully, you can make some very spectacular grand finales.

According to my source, it is possible to draw patterns by yourself, and this device can project them. I’m not certain how this is done, but I’m guessing that you need to hook the Uchiagehanabi to your computer for that.

You should be able to get the Uchiagehanabi for about $168, but this is in Japan only, and only after August 1st. As for anyone outside Japan, you can pre-order it here for the same price.
