The More Pollution In The Air, The More This Dress Glows [Apparel]

Being one of only two laydees on Gizmodo, I feel justified in saying this dress is hot. Though not as hot as we'll be if global warming gets its way, unless more people pay attention to eco-friendly inventions like this.

Dozens of LEDs sprinkled across this dress concept light up, and actually blink faster when the microprocessor and carbon dioxide detection unit (hidden in the dress bustle, I presume) recognizes pollution in the air. No, they don't make underwear versions, though I'm sure some of the men reading this could do with their "air pollution" being monitored. [Diffus via The Coolist]

Diffus pollution dress is turned on by CO2, prefers a clean environment
We've seen LED-laced dresses before -- though sometimes we'd rather we hadn't -- but this one here is almost refined enough for us to consider wearing. Stitched together using conductive embroidery, hundreds of LEDs are connected to a CO2 detector and react to its input with anything from a slow pulsating glow to a blinking signal of doom. No mention of Morse code messages, unfortunately, but this is run by an Arduino chip -- which means programming malleability (read: near-limitless possibilities) should be built in. Just know that when you see the next Bond girl communicating with Daniel Craig via her haute tech outfit, we had the idea first. A closeup of the dress and processor awaits after the break.

Flare dress lights up your life

flare-dressFashion has certainly come a long way, and the Flare Dress that you see here by Dutch designer Stijn Ossevoort is certainly something differet – it comes embroidered with wind-sensitive lights which have been specially arranged to form dandelions. Just walking down the street with wind blowing your way will power those lights, making them twinkle and elevating you to being the street’s main attraction, never mind about the buskers who perform some really great covers of the Fab Four. No idea what happens when it rains though – will you get electrocuted?
