Nexus One Desktop Dock now available for $45

The rumored desktop dock for the Nexus One has been made official today -- conveniently (and accurately) bearing the official name of Nexus One Desktop Dock -- running $45 sold separately or bundled with your phone purchase. As expected, dropping the phone into the dock triggers the Clock application to fire up to give you access to alarms, music, and weather (not unlike the Droid), but the special sauce lies out back where you'll find a 3.5mm jack that connects to your stereo system using an included 3.5mm-to-RCA cable. A charger's included to keep the phone topped off while it's resting in the cradle, too, and considering the presence of Bluetooth here, we're guessing audio is ferried via A2DP rather than a hardwired connection. Technology! The dock's available right now for purchase directly from Google.

HTC Nexus One Bluetooth car dock hits the FCC; Nexus One trade name listed as ‘Google Phone’

The slow drip of Nexus One info continues at the FCC -- just a day after we saw the Bluetooth desktop dock hit the database, the Bluetooth car dock we'd also seen floating around has turned up for inpection. And what's this? The list of ancillary testing equipment used says the phone's "trade name" is "Google Phone," which is the first time we've seen that name used in a semi-official fashion. It's particularly notable since this form was prepared by HTC employees and the phone is called the Nexus One elsewhere in the document, so you'd think they'd just put either HTC or Nexus One in that space. Of course, it's also entirely possible that whoever filled out this form just got a little carried away, but c'mon -- you wouldn't lie to the government, now would you? Nexus One Bluetooth desktop dock clears the FCC, car clip spotted in the wilds

The slow steady drip of details from the yet to be announced Nexus One continues today with a pair of accessories for the HTC / Google mashup. Above we've got a wireframe of the portrait-mode Desktop Dock to be known as model CR B410. What's unusual here is the inclusion of Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR in the dock when the Nexus One is already Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR capable. After all, we've heard that the handset includes a docking connector at its base so what additional functionality would the second Bluetooth radio provide? That mystery aside, the FCC test report also shows a configuration where the dock is tethered via an AV-jack to a DVD player to help pull your multimedia off the slate and into the living room. We've also grabbed a shot of the Nexus One navigating inside a car with the help of a dashboard clip mount -- check it after the break along side another FCC pic.

As every seasoned holiday shopper can attest, the week leading up to Christmas is critical. We've all been there: lack of sleep and proper nutrients leads to errors in judgment, collateral damage, and most heinous of all: crapgadgets. How can you be sure that the media dock that you purchased for a loved one is the real deal? Well, you could peruse our Holiday Gift Guide selection of docks and alarm clocks, for starters. But if you're in a crunch, ask yourself the following questions: Is the speaker set manufactured by the Kaiser Transmission Parts Company of Taipei? Does it feature a mind-numbing array of features? (The above example includes SD card support, a 5 megapixel webcam, and support for external storage via USB.) Does the black and orange color combination make you dizzy? And, the most telling: Does the product literature boast support for the Meizu M8? If so, then yes, you probably have a crapgadget. GenevaSound S stuffs ‘hifi’ and ‘pretentious’ into smaller $299 box

We loved the original Geneva Sound System XL, if for nothing other than the sheer audacity of it, though we hear it made some pretty good noise to boot. But if you don't have $1,999 to drop on an iPod dock, the new GenevaSound S brings things into the realm of possibility with a street-style $299 pricetag. Of course, with only two speakers under the hood and not as much room (or power) to stretch those bass-ey legs, we'll have to see just if the dock can measure up to its hyperbole when we get a chance to take a listen. At least that sexy, hidden touch-sensitive control panel certainly isn't hurting anything.

New JVC XS-SR3 Dock Gets Your iPod Horizontal [Dock]

The JVC XS-SR3 has a clean wraparound look and offers horizontal cradling in case you want to watch your content on the smallest screen in your home.

The dock does feature Dolby Virtual Surround and can double as a computer speaker system, but the rotating holder is something I can't quite get behind as a concept. Watching a movie on your iPod or iTouch is convenient because of its portability, but if it's tethered to a dock, why not just use your TV or monitor? If you disagree, the XS-SR3 will be available this month for $150. [JVC]

Joojoo tablet gets its first batch of press shots, $30 dock accessory

Up until now, the only official shot of the Joojoo tablet was that seductive snippet of the corner. 'Course, you got a pretty good look of the thing if you bothered to watch our sit-down with Fusion Garage's Chandra Rathakrishnan, but it's still a pleasing sight to see the company push out a nice gallery of press shots to really tickle the senses. We aren't exactly sure if these guys have Cameron's approval to use Avatar screen shots to promote their product, but at this point, we wouldn't put anything regarding the Joojoo beyond the realm of feasibility. Oh, and if you were wondering how you'd eventually use this thing as an at-home movie viewer, the $29.99 dock accessory pictured above is the answer. One word of caution, however: given all the drama surrounding this thing, use that pre-order button at your own risk.

P.S. - Our good pal Chippy is suggesting that the only possible CPU / GPU tandem that could result in the claimed 1080p support and 5 hours of battery life is the Atom Z530 and the GMA500, both from Intel. Hopefully we'll hear something official in short order.

Magellan’s GPS Car Kit for iPhone and iPod Touch: $130, coming next month

We heard earlier this month that Magellan was looking to one-up TomTom by outing an iPod touch / iPhone GPS car kit of its very own, but a few critical details were missing: namely, a price and a release date. Thanks to a new product listing on Amazon (capped after the break), we at least have a clue as to when this thing will be shipping stateside and for how much. If you'll recall, this one's compatible with the 2nd and 3rd generation iPod touch as well as the iPhone 3G and 3GS, and aside from providing a built-in speaker, charging capabilities and a noise-canceling handsfree speakerphone, it'll also work with any navigation or location-based app -- not just Magellan's own $79.99 RoadMate program. The unfortunate part here is that Magellan has somehow managed to produce a cradle that's actually more expensive that the ludicrously overpriced TomTom variant, but those willing to part with $129.99 can place their order now and look for a December 11th ship date.

Zemno’s $500 DeskBook Pro docking station is strictly for zealots

It may lack wireless connectivity, but it's sure got the look. Zemno's latest portable docking station is probably the most elaborate that we've ever seen, boasting an Apple-esque appearance that's designed to mesh well with Cupertino's latest MacBook models. The company claims that any lappie under 15-inches in size can be used with its DeskBook Pro, though we're guessing only the hardcore drumbeaters would actually shell out $499.99 for something such as this. As for functionality, the port-laden slate allows for up to two hard drives to be docked simultaneously or any combination of hard drive, battery, or peripheral device with access to 16 input / output connections. The device also supports ModBays, which are interchangeable accessories designed to conveniently slip in and out of the DeskBook Pro. Hit the read link for the full list of I/O ports, but only if you managed to not be appalled by the aforesaid MSRP.

Altec Lansing inMotion Classic iMT620 iPhone stereo review

We've been playing with the Altec Lansing inMotion Classic iMT620 for a few days now, and before you think "man, not another iPhone stereo dock," look again. It was (mostly) love at first sight when we spotted this mini boombox -- sharp corners and minimalism are what Altec Lansing does best these days, and the hint of retro isn't hurting anyone, either. Like the iMT620's predecessors, the inMotion series still bears the portability hallmark in the form of a built-in battery (up to five hours for this model), and now with the addition of a multifunctional handle as well. But is it really worth the $149 tag? Read on to find out.
