UMPC Portal | Email this | Comments Archos 9 Unboxing Video Shows Off Windows 7 Tablet [Tablets]
Posted by: Gadget Boy in Gadget News, Technology on December 18th, 2009
For those of you who just can't wait for whatever tablet goodness Apple is dreaming up, the Archos 9 running Windows 7 might be the answer. But wait—is that Windows 7 Starter Edition?
Unfortunately, yes, which means that this version won't take full advantage of Windows 7's tablet capabilities. Still, UMPC Portal reports a solid 3 hours of battery life, 60GB hard drive, 1GB RAM, and a 1.1Ghz Atom under the hood. Our initial hands-on impressions were generally favorable, and there's nothing really here to contradict that (although $500 is still pretty steep). UMPC will be giving more updates today that we'll keep an eye on. [UMPC Portal via Engadget]

Posted by: Gadget Boy in Gadget News, Technology on December 9th, 2009
Need a relatively respectable DAP to shove in your next pair of gym shorts, huh? Yeah, we've all been there. If you happen to live on the right side of the Atlantic, Archos' 1 Vision just might be your ticket, as the diminutive, no-frills player is now available to purchase for the tidy sum of £24.99 ($41). For those in need of a refresher, this one's packing 4GB of internal storage, support for MP3, WMA, APE, WAV and FLAC files, compatibility with JPEG and BMP files and even an audio recording function for vocally jotting down grocery lists. There's still no word on a US release, but we're told this is the season for hope. Can we get a confirmation on that? Well, we just caught sight of it in all its dissected glory courtesy of the FCC last week, but it looks like the Archos 9 tablet / media player may not be quite so close to a release after all. According to UMPC Portal, Archos now says that the initial batch of pre-orders won't start shipping until "early December" -- well past the already-missed October 22nd launch date -- while the retail release has been pushed back all the way until sometime in the first quarter of 2010. Let's just hope the price doesn't keep going up in the meantime.Archos 9 pre-orders reportedly delayed until December, retail release pushed to 2010 originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 20 Nov 2009 00:21:00 EST. Posted by: Gadget Boy in Gadget News on November 6th, 2009
Archos has been on a real PMP tear as of late, releasing the Archos 2 Vision, 3 Vision, and the Clipper all in one pop back in August. The company's now launched yet another Vision model, the entry-level 1 Vision. This tiny little 4GB dude has a 1.5-inch LCD and supposedly gets about 20 hours of battery life per charge. No video support in this puppy, but the €30 (somewhere in the realm of $45) pricetag should temper some of your crushing disappointment over its lack of features. The Archos 1 Vision should be available in Europe by the end of November.[Via PMP Today]
