BGR | Email this | Comments Sprint to Get 4G Mobile Hotspot From Sierra Wireless Soon [WiMax]
Posted by: Gadget Boy in Gadget News, Technology on December 31st, 2009
We get the feeling that early 2010 is going to be big for Sprint's WiMax. We came by one of these training slides for a new 3G/4G mobile hotspot, precisely like the Mi-Fi, for Sprint.
Like many of Sprint's wireless data cards, this one is also going to be made by Sierra Wireless. What we're hearing is that this new device will be able to support up to five users via Wi-Fi and its range is being increased to 100 feet. In addition to the added range and power, it will also support SD card storage; while that doesn't sound like a big deal, the data can be shared by every user who is connected to the data card. No official pricing or release date just yet, but we're looking at a possibly February launch for this dual 3G-4G wireless hotspot in your pocket.

FCC, Neobits | Email this | Comments Wall Street Journal and New York Post Confirmed For Sony Reader Daily Edition [SonyReader]
Posted by: Gadget Boy in Gadget News, Technology on December 18th, 2009
When Sony announced the Reader Daily Edition back in August, they hadn't confirmed which newspapers would be offered alongside the ebooks. It's just News Corp titles for now, with The Wall Street Journal and New York Post being confirmed.
A daily news summary will be on offer for WSJ readers, in addition to the digital version of the paper. The digital copy of the paper will sell punters back $14.99 a month, with the daily summary another $5, and the New York Post will cost $9.99 a month, exclusively sold on the Reader Daily Edition.
On sale sometime before 2010 (that's 13 days, then), it'll cost $399.99. [WSJ]

EyeTV | Email this | Comments LG expects to sell 3.8 million 3D LCDs by 2011, partners with Korean broadcaster SkyLife
Posted by: Gadget Boy in Gadget News, Technology on December 15th, 2009
Well, this sure marks a change of tone for LG. After taking the cautious approach and throwing out a single 3D TV model in 2009, the Korean manufacturer is now boldly predicting sales of 400,000 3D units in 2010 and 3.4 million in 2011. To make it all happen, the company has announced it will introduce a "wide range" of 3D TV sets measuring between 42 and 72 inches diagonally, with flagship models among them. Furthermore, LG's new partnership with SkyLife will see both companies investing in 3D content creation, with the digital satellite broadcaster pitching in $25 million. Naturally, this Korean push is merely a prelude to a planned assault on American and European markets next year, which LG expects will jump all over 3D given its internal survey data indicating 58 percent of people want an extra dimension to their viewing experience. What we're most excited about, though, is the "ultra-slim" bezel you see in the picture -- it is no accident or mere prototype, and its minimization is part of LG's effort to maximize immersion. We like it, 3D or not.LG expects to sell 3.8 million 3D LCDs by 2011, partners with Korean broadcaster SkyLife originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 15 Dec 2009 04:19:00 EST.
